On two and three October 2025, PATHS2INCLUDE researcher Dr Elisabeth Ugreninov (OsloMet), contributed to a seminar on statistics and quantitative research on the situation of persons with disabilities in the labour market, organised by The Nordic Welfare Centre and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare.
The seminar gathered around 25 participants, including representatives from national authorities, researchers, and experts in employment and disability statistics.
The seminar focused mainly on the methodological challenges and solutions related to monitoring the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), particularly Article 27, which establishes the right of people with disabilities to work on an equal basis with others, and Article 31, which obligates states to collect and analyse data to ensure the implementation of the convention’s rights. The Convention also emphasises the importance of an inclusive and accessible work environment, and the obligation of employers to provide reasonable accommodation.
Dr Elisabeth Ugreninov’s contribution to the seminar was linked to the project’s Work Package 2 ‘Identifying gaps in employment: theoretical and policy challenges’, which focuses on the role of context in labour market vulnerability. She presented the results of our review of existing national and European data sources for monitoring the situation of 14 at-risk groups in the labour market, including people with disabilities. She also introduced our interactive map which represents the labour market attachment of vulnerable groups with specific indicators on disability. Finally, Dr Ugreninov proposed harmonised and comparable measures, highlighting the need for improved data sources to monitor at-risk groups from an intersectional perspective.
